California Wolf
It was a typical full moon night as I howled at the moon
When she appeared before me and began howling in tune
Be gone I said, I’m a lone wolf and this here is my peak
But you are off queue and your howls to me sound weak
Who are you to question my calls on such a hallow night?
I am the wolf you’re crying for, and I hear your plight
Your coat is knotted and gray, you’re getting old I can see.
I am a rogue wolf, born of the wild earth so please let me be.
This is my nightly routine that you have so rudely interrupted
If your calls weren’t of loneliness, I may have not disrupted
This isn’t a mating call, but my instinctive mystical rite
So thank you for your concern, and have a good night
But the moon is one to share, and your bitterness seems trite
I hear you crying to the moon in pain, almost every single night
I am here to save you and give you the life that you’ve craved
And if you continue to be rude, I may not be so well-behaved
I showed my red stained teeth and threatened her to leave
Not bad for a wolf that has made it’s living as a thief
I have roamed for years on this land without the need of an army
And your threats to get close to me are just meant to harm me
Stand down, hide your sharp teeth and let love into your heart
Or stay here alone and let the winter’s cold do its part
For the wilderness is unkinder when you prey here alone
So, join my congregation and let our love be your throne
Trust in the full moon and honor your soul’s voice
Lone wolves are always in danger, but this is your choice
So, I bid you farewell my pack is awaiting my return
I’ll tell them your cries were not of their concern
She turned her course and disappeared into the night
I proceeded with my callings, but they did not seem right
Perhaps she was the one I’ve been hunting this whole time
So, I apologized to the moon for my heinous wailing crime
And ran into the darkness toward her and into the cold unknown
Toward the promise of a new day and goodbye to the alone
