Into the Abyss
It was just me and the ocean as I rested under a palm tree
A women walked from the water and headed toward me
She was foreign to me, not like anything my eyes have seen
Not foreign like another nation, just unlike women in Queens
See I saw your scars from a far, and they caught my eye
I’m surprised you saw them, I come here for the sun’s dye
I’m not speaking of the scars that you wear on your skin
The sun has helped here, but it cannot fade those within
Come, I want to show you something called the edge of love
From what I see, this is something you’ve been deprived of
It’s like nothing you’ve ever felt before, but I need you to abide
And if you swim with me, you will see your ocean shift tide
I looked out at the sea, rocks were beaten by angry white waves
Trust me she said, take my hand, it’s time for you to be brave
She led me to the edge of the shore and the ocean was resounding
I’m sorry I can’t go in there with you, for I am afraid of drowning
Take my hand we will swim deep beneath your dark violent squall
So, we faced my mad sea’s hostile cautions and dove beneath them all
